Green Room Cafe

Located in a town with an abundance of seafood, Cocoa Beach's Green Room Cafe (previously Cafe Surfinista) is making waves with its organic, vegetarian-friendly menu. In an effort to promote optimal health and wellness, the restaurant offers a wide variety of fresh fruit smoothies and energizing Acai bowls (making it a favorite pit stop for surfers looking to fuel up before heading out for the day), greens mixed with nutritious fruits and nuts, daily soup specials, veggie-packed sandwiches and wraps, and gluten-free baked goods.

I sampled Green Room Cafe's fare with two self-proclaimed meat and potato lovers, each taking doubtful bites of unfamiliar ingredients. I was wowed by the refreshing flavors of the Tropical Bowl- a base made with blended Sambazon Acai, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and apple juice, and topped with sliced banana, crunchy granola, coconut flakes and bee pollen (more like a dessert than a main course, but I'm not complaining). For my dining companions (one stubbornly refused all things tofu), the Inlet's quorn mushroom patty- with a texture and taste reminiscent of chicken, and Vejjo- the restaurant's take on a veggie burger, provided comfort in an otherwise uncertain environment. Far from veggie-converts, the two carnivores did agree Green Room Cafe's unconventional menu is worthy of a deviation from their everyday norm...as long as it's only when I'm in town.

The daily soup special- black bean and vegetable
Green Room Cafe is known for its fruity Acai Bowls- Rio, Big Surf, Sandy Beach and Tropical
The cool smoothie-esque Tropical Bowl- as gorgeous as it is delicious
Sandwiches are served with a side of tortilla chips and homemade salsa. The Inlet- a quorn mushroom patty, mayo, lettuce, sprouts, tomato and carrots on grilled grain bread
The Vejjo- 1/4 lb veggie patty, cheese, tomato, sprouts, carrots, cucumber, mayo and mustard on a white bun
