Market Mondays: Prepared Foods

The air blowing through the Union Square Greenmarket on Monday was freeeeezing- the kind of cold that numbs your fingers the split second you take off your mittens to dig for exact change. So, in lieu of strolling along the aisles to look for inspiration from seasonal produce, I grabbed prepared goodies and made a mad dash back to the warmth of my apartment.

Making quick work- I set my sights on the Fuji apple juice at Red Jacket Orchards' booth before walking a few steps to pick up an herbed tofu and veggie turnover from Body & Soul, a purveyor of vegan turnovers, wraps, cookies, muffins and scones, and a staple at the Greenmarket. Adjacent to Body & Soul was Berkshire Berries' table. I purchased a miniature jar of N.Y.C. Rooftop Honey, and a jar of Berry Blackberry Jam before finishing with the perfect accompaniments- Consider Bardwell Farm's Pawlet cheese, and a crusty sourdough baguette from Buon Pane Bakery.

I slathered jam on a slice of bread, topped it with cheese, and drizzled a bit of honey on top
