Bonbon Bonanza!

Bespoke Chocolates, neuroscientist turned chocolatier Rachel Zoe Insler's cozy chocolate shop, announced its Design Your Own Signature Chocolate Contest last month. As a long-time chocolate lover who has pledged her devotion to Bespoke Chocolates' award-winning signature Pretzel-Covered Sea-Salted Caramels, I eagerly devised a contest-worthy chocolate all my own...my signature chocolate.

Inspiration came in the form of an afternoon at Yankee Stadium, cold beer in one hand, salty bag of peanuts in the other, intently watching the stirrup clad 2009 World Series Champions bring home another victory. Out of this victory was born the idea for the "Ballpark Bonbon"- beer infused ganache, encased in a crisp chocolate shell, rolled in crushed honey-roasted peanuts. The Ballpark Bonbon pays homage to two stadium greats- beer and peanuts, and knocks it out of the park by adding luscious chocolate to the game.

To my delight, Bespoke Chocolates has named the Ballpark Bonbon as one of its three final contenders. The winning confection will be determined by Johnny Iuzzini- Executive Pastry Chef of Jean Georges and author of Dessert Fourplay, Gabriella Gershenson- editor of the Eat Out and Feed Blog sections of Time Out New York, and Adam Roberts- The Amateur Gourmet, and voting will be open to patrons of Bespoke Chocolates from 4pm-7pm Wednesday, June 9th.
