A Grand Tasting On Pier 54

ShopRite, a New York City Wine & Food Festival sponsor, presented its Grand Tasting today on Pier 54. My stomach was eager to embark on its next culinary journey, so I armed myself with a coveted orange wristband and joined a crowd of food and beverage industry insiders to enjoy "interesting vintages, unique spirits, food samples, and product demos". Exhibitors such as LarMar Foods and Pepperidge Farm shared new products while vintners like Jordan Winery and Francis Ford Coppola Winery generously filled festival-goers' complimentary Nachtmann Toscana wine glasses. Judging by the number of people and the excited atmosphere under the massive tent on Pier 54, ShopRite's Grand Tasting was a resounding success.

ShopRite's chefs prepared numerous dishes with products sold in ShopRite Supermarkets. Crosse & Blackwell's Scampi Sauce served with snow crab legs

Nick Lorenz's heirloom tomato wafers with basil mousse and shaved piave cheese

Pumpkin passion and chocolate cake from the Aruba Tourism Authority

Nuts+Nuts USA's Indonesian cashews in spicy, honey sesame, sweet & salty, and lightly salted

Michelin Travel & Lifestyle (with guest chef Sam Freund) served pampano with crab, orange & smoked corn puree

Brooklyn's Kumquat Cupcakery shared its lemon lavender and chocolate orange miniature cupcakes

Avocado and coffee milkshakes made utilizing avocados from Avocados From Mexico

Exhibitors were eager to share their products

Over 50 beverage suppliers occupied tables on either side of the tent

Maison Le Grand's pestos, tapenades and sauces

"Tahini hummus a la POM", topped with POM pomegranate arils

Food Network star Sunny Anderson and a sample of her North Carolina house ribs

Chef Roberto Trevino competed in a mini Iron Chef competition against chef Jose Garces- the Chairman was on hand to reveal the secret ingredient- squash

Chef Trevino's seafood stuffed squash blossom with warm vinaigrette

Many of the tables were crowded, but the line at Metromix was the longest. Its New York City Wine & Food Festival silkscreen made-on-site bags were hugely popular
